Tesla roadside assistance is free for a warrantable breakdown inside the new-vehicle window. An empty traction pack isn’t a warrantable breakdown. Tesla may still send one complimentary out-of-charge tow per year. After that, the visit is billed. Inland Empire owners meet this split on I-15, I-10, I-215, and the mountain grades.

Warranty transport covers a defect, not a drained pack

Tesla publishes a New Vehicle Limited Warranty of 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty runs 8 years. The mile cap depends on the model, often 100,000 or 150,000 miles. Read the current terms on Tesla’s support site. Model year and trim change the fine print. Our Tesla battery warranty guide for Inland Empire owners walks the pack side of that clock.

A warrantable breakdown means Tesla accepts a covered part as the reason the car won’t drive. In that window, Tesla roadside can arrange transport to service. That’s the complimentary path behind tesla roadside assistance free vs paid.

A pack at zero is a use event. Inland heat, a grade, or a skipped overnight plug put you there. It isn’t a Battery and Drive Unit failure. Tesla doesn’t treat an empty pack like a failed drive unit.

Complimentary roadside is a courtesy list, not a repair

Tesla’s roadside page still lists a few non-repair events as complimentary. That’s only while the new-vehicle warranty is open. Those visits are limited courtesies, not warranty repairs. We break down the dispatch list in what Tesla roadside actually covers.

Tesla typically describes:

  • One out-of-charge transport per year, up to 50 miles, toward a Supercharger, a destination charger, or home.
  • Flat-tire transport, also with a 50-mile cap, toward a Tesla service center or a tire shop.
  • Lockout help.
  • Winching when a wrecker can reach a stuck car, and the event isn’t a crash.
  • Transport for some non-drivable issues Tesla ties to warranty.

An empty pack sits on that courtesy list once a year. It doesn’t sit on the defect list. A second empty-pack event in the same 12 months is billed. That’s true even if the New Vehicle Limited Warranty is still running.

Confirm the 50-mile cap on Tesla’s site, not on a guess

Tesla publishes a 50-mile complimentary tow cap. Miles past that cap are billed. Tesla’s site is the place to confirm the current number. This page won’t guess whether your stall fits inside it.

Riverside County’s ACS 2019-2023 population is 2,478,600. San Bernardino County’s is 2,197,104. The market runs from Chino Hills and Eastvale across the valley floor. It climbs the Cajon toward Victorville and Hesperia. It continues into Big Bear Lake and Big Bear City. A 50-mile cap is a Tesla rule. It isn’t a map of two counties.

Two stalls that look the same on the shoulder

Hazard lights on I-10 in Colton don’t name the claim. The car may have a covered mechanical failure. The 12V may be dead, or the traction pack may be empty. Those three paths don’t pay the same. Start with how to tell a dead pack from a dead 12V.

Dark screens and a charge port that won’t open point at the 12V first. A dead 12V isn’t an empty pack. It isn’t automatically a Battery and Drive Unit claim. Ask Tesla whether that visit is complimentary before anyone quotes a shop job.

A car that drove to zero on I-10 through Redlands is an out-of-charge recovery. Tesla may tow once that year. It won’t call that a warrantable pack failure.

A covered part that leaves the car undrivable is the warranty-transport path. Tesla is moving the car to service. It isn’t adding miles on the shoulder.

Where Inland Empire drives create empty packs

The I-15 climb toward Victorville and Hesperia uses range. So does the I-10 rise through Beaumont and Banning. SR-60 through Jurupa Valley stacks heat and traffic. I-215 through Moreno Valley and Perris does the same. The Ortega near Wildomar cuts range on the south county edge. The drop from Lake Arrowhead or Running Springs cuts it on the mountain side. Fontana warehouse rows and Ontario airport lots add long sits with climate control running. For the Cajon case, see out of charge on I-15 at the Cajon climb.

This page won’t guess the distance to the next Supercharger. Open Tesla’s in-car map before you leave. The coverage question at every milepost stays the same. The test is whether a covered part failed, or the pack hit empty.

Home power isn’t one utility across this market. Riverside Public Utilities serves the City of Riverside. The City of Colton Electric Utility owns the wires inside Colton. Banning runs its own electric utility. Bear Valley Electric Service covers Big Bear Lake and Big Bear City. Moreno Valley is split between Southern California Edison and Moreno Valley Utility. Rancho Cucamonga is mostly SCE. Rancho Cucamonga Municipal Utility covers a southeast pocket that includes the Victoria Gardens area. Most other Inland Empire cities sit on SCE.

None of those utilities rewrites Tesla’s roadside policy. SCE, RPU, and Bear Valley rates don’t rewrite that empty-pack tow as a warranty claim.

Housing age still shapes who wakes up undercharged. Only 6.5% of Temecula housing predates 1980, ACS 2019-2023. Murrieta sits at 6.2%, Eastvale at 2.2%, and French Valley at 2.3%. San Bernardino is 60.9% pre-1980, Montclair 68.5%, and Crestline 77.7%. Older panels and a 120V overnight plug are a home problem. They aren’t a warrantable breakdown.

When Tesla roadside becomes a billed visit

The free-to-paid line is three gates. Our Inland Empire Tesla roadside coverage guide tracks the same split from the dispatch side.

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty window is the first gate. After 4 years or 50,000 miles, Tesla still dispatches. Complimentary warranty-tied roadside is gone. Tesla doesn’t publish a simple public fee menu. The service center or the contractor Tesla sends sets the amount. Ask for that quote before a hook goes on. This page won’t invent a number.

The one-per-year out-of-charge allowance is the second gate. Tesla describes it as one instance per year. A second empty pack inside that clock is paid, warranty or not.

Exclusions are the third gate. Crash towing is an insurance job, not Tesla roadside. Tesla can decline a visit it traces to driver error, including ignored low-battery warnings. Confirm the current exclusion list on Tesla’s support site.

A local Level 2 visit isn’t Tesla warranty

Charge Pro IE is a referral line. It doesn’t hold a shop license, own trucks, or employ technicians. It matches stranded Tesla drivers with independent Inland Empire operators. The operator quotes before any cable goes in, then bills you directly.

Those operators bring a 240V Level 2 source to the car. They use a native NACS plug. CCS or J1772 adapters cover non-Tesla EVs. A typical session adds 10 to 20 miles of range. That takes 15 to 30 minutes of charging time. That’s charging time, never an arrival time. They can also jump or replace a dead 12V on site. What a mobile EV charging visit actually is spells out that difference.

That quote isn’t Tesla warranty. It won’t convert an empty pack into a covered defect. It can put miles back in the car on the shoulder. That matters if you already used the yearly out-of-charge tow. It also matters if you’d rather keep the 50-mile allowance for a real defect. For a pack that won’t move, out-of-charge recovery is the local match.

If you need that match, call (909) 250-2881. The operator you’re connected with quotes before starting.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tesla roadside assistance free when the pack is empty?

Not as a warranty claim. Tesla may include one complimentary out-of-charge transport per year, with a published 50-mile cap. A second empty-pack event in that year is billed. Confirm both limits on Tesla’s support site.

What counts as a warrantable breakdown for complimentary transport?

A covered defect that leaves the car undrivable. Tesla publishes that window as 4 years or 50,000 miles. Tesla’s support pages are the authority. An empty pack isn’t that defect.

Does the complimentary out-of-charge tow reset every year?

Tesla describes the allowance as one instance per year. The New Vehicle Limited Warranty doesn’t add extra empty-pack tows. A second drain in the same 12 months is a paid recovery.
